The microbiological characterisation of pathogenic isolates that are qualified for the production of flock specific vaccines is another one of our labs vital focus areas. The isolates are analysed using different specific PCR methods (including ERIC-, BOX-, nested- and real time (RT-) PCR) and sequencing.
With these tests it is possible to genotypically classify the isolates with regard to their species, subtypes and potential virulence based on the detected target genes like surface determinant or toxin genes as well as the sequences. In the end, the aim of the molecular biological characterisation is to choose exactly the right isolates, from the isolated pathogens in the flock, to produce the flock specific vaccine that is needed to build up a vaccinal protection in the respective flock.
